Our Trip

Well here it is Sunday already and am back from our short holiday with grandchildren. We had mixed weather on the Tuesday and unfortunately on Wednesday, the day we went on the Jacobite train it poured and when we got off at Mallaig the heavens opened. It did kinda spoil it but the views were still amazing and the Glenfinnan Viaduct was something else!
On Thursday, we stopped off at a Fairy Glen inland from Benavie near the shores of Loch Lochy which the girls loved and then we went on to Spean Bridge and Inverness. We decided to show the girls Culloden Moor on our way home and saw the brand new visitor's centre which is certainly worth a visit if you are up that way. The atmosphere is tinged with sadness and to see the final fate of the clans and those who were tortured and executed and others survived but sent to the colonies as punishment for rising up against the English King. It brings history alive so much more than reading books or being taught in the classroom!
Friday, we didn't do much just chilled out and caught up with some washing and shopping. Had a lovely lunch at the local 'Bakehouse' which is under new management and the food is gorgeous.
Yesterday we had lunch out again but at Sugar & Spice a lovely little oldfashioned sweet shop and tearoom in Arbroath. Then drove down to visit Louise at her shop for a while before heading off to see 'Mamma Mia' at the cinema in Dundee. Absolutely brilliant film would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. [The girls had the CD so we were singing the music in the car while we drove all over the highlands!]
Today is the girls last day with us and we will really miss them as they certainly keep us on our toes and of course, being biased they are two lovely girls and we just loved our week with them.
Here are some photos.......

Neptune's staircase/Caledonian Canal

Jacobite Monument/Glenfinnan
Ben Nevis under clouds
Naomi with Jacobite soldier [they fought with highland clans]
Laura at Culloden monument
